Meeting real user needs beats building cool features every time. Especially when that user is deployed in harsh conditions where lives are at stake.

Sigma Design's Piet Ganzer and Andy Boyes shared how they've led user-need prioritization at Tuesday's UW Foster School of Business × Pacific Northwest Defense Coalition (PNDC) panel on designing for defense tech. Joined by Patrick Barrett of Sherpa Design and moderator Chris Groves of FirstWatch Partners, the panel touched on several supporting points:

- Test early and often in real-world environments.
- Build in supply chain resilience and design with easy-to-procure components.
- Stay modular, so components, payloads, and dual-use applications can change quickly as technology and threats evolve.
- Dual-use defense & commercial requirements often overlap, but its critical to note where they diverge.
- Keep it simple. Clever beats complex, and it costs less.

An inspiring day of connection, collaboration, and celebrating women in manufacturing!

Sigma Design had the pleasure of hosting Women in Manufacturing Oregon and Washington for a morning of meaningful conversations and inspiring perspectives. While guests were here, our team asked a few of them to share their thoughts on the day.

Our President & CEO, Lindsey Dotson, shared her nonlinear journey into engineering, manufacturing, and leadership, along with lessons on taking chances, building trust, and finding your own path in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Her closing message clearly resonated with the room:

“Keep going until something tells you to stop.”

It meant a lot to hear firsthand how our team, company culture, and the core values woven throughout our space connected with attendees. Watch to hear what they had to say!

SEMICON West 2026 is a wrap!

Great to reconnect with partners, meet new faces, and see where the semiconductor industry is headed. The numbers speak for themselves: the industry saw a 90% increase this year, and that kind of growth puts real pressure on the people and equipment behind every fab.

Two themes stood out in our conversations:

- As capacity ramps, the subfab can’t be an afterthought. Smarter, more automated systems are key to keeping tools running reliably and efficiently.

- Fast-moving production needs strong design, engineering, and maintenance partners to keep uptime high and new equipment on schedule.

This month we celebrated our teams in both Seattle & San Francisco Bay area. Sigma employees gathered to celebrate this year's Autumn Bash, a chance to pause, reconnect, and celebrate how far we've come.

As Lindsey shared with the team: "It's no longer about rowing harder. It's about rowing better—together."

That rhythm is what this year has been about, aligning our strengths and making sure everyone's pulling in the same direction.
