Every so often an unusual project comes into the shop. These are projects that most shops will not take on because the skill requirements are so diverse. In this case, a tall strapping man walked in with a cast bronze reproduction of a roman gladiator’s helmet. He said it was a little tight to get on his head and asked if I could do an alteration so it would fit. We were successful. Our shop is well equipped. In addition to fine metal work, we can also work with wood, plastic, and fiber. We have forging, welding, machining and water jet cutting capabilities. Every so often an unusual project comes into the shop. These are projects that most shops will not take on because the skill requirements are so diverse. This handrail end is forged from a single solid 1” square iron bar into a rope twist with a scrolled tapered volute to create a graceful elegant handrail in a home crafted from an 18th century barn. Forged in fire to a blistering yellow heat and twisted by hand with all the strength of one skilled blacksmith. The resulting beauty was well worth the sweat and toil. The authentic hand made look can only be captured by using the time honored traditional techniques of the blacksmith artist.
