Yes, we are concern about how the new tariffs put into place this month will affect our parts pricing. It seems as though the tariffs will add 25% to any imported part coming into the US.
We do try to get the best quality products for our customers while getting the best price with some aftermarket gears, as well as OE (original equipment) gears.
Well, we are safe with PAI, Inc HP gears for the Mack truck, because they are made right here in the South. Go, Mack! Also, with US Gear, a very old company in the USA that produces aftermarket gears for light duty vehicles and high-performance cars. A lot of OE parts for Eaton transmissions and differentials are made in the US but over the last ten years we have seen China, Italy and Mexico stamped on some parts for both their transmissions and differentials. Many of the bearings and seals companies have gone to China. It is rumored that China will not let these companies have their own equipment for making these products back.
But in saying this, parts made in the US have always been higher, we have more regulations in place for our manufactures, and salaries are higher than for employees of companies overseas. So, this tariff will level out the pricing helping the US companies compete with the imports. Of course, we want to buy American, it is a good thing.
I don’t know about you but I was really mad when the Ralph Lauren Company made the Olympic uniforms for the USA teams in China. He made his money from Americans, not the Chinese, those uniforms should have been made here.
The hope is that this will mean more products being made here, which will mean more factories here and more jobs. So, our country men will be put back to work, it is a good thing. Sometimes you have to go out on a limb to make a change. Go USA!
