Got to do some Test Cuts on Industrial Gasket Material using the Laser and was totally impressed!
Here’s the Material Breakdown using the 40W Laser (there’s also a 60W Laser that would probably Cut the Number of Passes in half).
Here are the Numbers:
- Black Rubber 1/8”: 300mm - 2 Passes
- Garlock Gylon 3500 1/8”: 300mm - 3 Passes
- Garlock Gylon 3510 1/8”: 300mm - 5 Passes
- Garlock Blue Guard 1/8”: 300mm - 9 Passes
- White Material 1/8”: 150mm - 22 Passes
Those lengths are the Feedrate, so 300mm = 300mm per minute Cut Speed. Number of Passes is how many times it had to Trace around the Cut to fully Cut through. So Black Rubber 1/8” had a Cut Speed of 300mm per minute and needed 2 Passes to fully Cut through and drop out.
If you go with the 60W Laser you will be able to either Cut Faster or make less passes.
For Calculating Total Cut Time, get the Length of all the Cuts on a Gasket in MM. Then divide that by the Cut Speed and multiply it times the number of Passes.
