Fun fact. Table salt melts around 1475 F and this O1 steel is supposed to be quenched at that temperature. So when I'm ready to harden. I just toss on some salt and when it melts, the blade is ready! Poor man's thermometer 😁

Little nerd rant here. I heat treated a chunk of railroad track and quenched it in oil. Tested it and got 45 HRC. Did proper research and discovered I should quench in brine. Re-heat treated and quenched in brine. Got 58 HRC. Love this quality control 😎
