Michelucci & Associates offers Geotechnial Engineering (Soil Engineering) services. To date, the firm has completed more than 5000 projects since it's inception in 1988. Projects include studies of residential and commercial sites, drainage studies, landslide evaluation and more. The firm also evaluates geotechnical issues for buyers and sellers of real estate. Many of the firms projects involve innovative solutions to foundation settlement or other soil related problems.

The State of California has released seismic hazard maps for many areas throughout the state. When we are requested to provide a proposal, one of the first things that we do is to locate the site on these maps. The blue zones are areas that could potentially be affected by earthquake induced landsliding. The green zones are areas that could potentially be affected by liquefaction during a major seismic event. Studies in such zones are generally more comprehensive than in the non-shaded areas.

2020 has been a crazy year. We are considered an "essential" business, and our project load remains strong. We have restricted the use of our office, only allowing one masked employee at a time and we are working pretty efficiently from our homes. I can see a trend that large offices may become obsolete. Online meetings now seem more efficient than conference room meetings.

There is obviously a demand for ADU's (Alternative Dwelling Units) as we are completing about 1 report per week for these backyard living and office structures.

We have also performed quite a few studies for outdoor digital billboards and just finished a project for 2 billboards at the San Jose Airport. The foundations for these structures are often on the order of 6 feet in diameter, extending to depths of 40 or more feet.
