Have you met Corey Kaneko? He’s celebrating one year of working as a generator technician at ThermFlo, and he’s also our Field Employee of the Month!

Prior to joining our team, Corey worked for four years as a facility technician at Meijer, where he would also take care of their portable and standby generators. Before that, he was a diesel mechanic working on fleet tractor trailers, and that experience led him to become the expert in engine repair that he is today.

According to Corey, his “favorite thing about ThermFlo is that there is a new challenge every day, and a wealth of knowledge from my coworkers who are always willing to help.” He loves working on large repairs and enjoys variety in everything he does, from the various projects that come with being a field technician to his outside-of-work activities like concert photography.

Thank you, Corey, for 12 months of dedication to our team—here’s to many more!

Meet David Sasenick, also known as Rusty. He became a generator technician at ThermFlo after working as a shop assistant for two years, and after nine more years of hard work and dedication to his team, Rusty is now a Senior Industrial Generator Technician. If you have any questions or problems with a telecom site or communications tower company, Rusty’s the one to call. His specialty is working on cellphone tower sites for major service providers like Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, and AT&T.

When Rusty goes on a service call, there’s always an additional member of the team by his side—his service dog Koda Bear. Since Koda Bear was four weeks old, he’s been Rusty’s true friend and loyal companion. “He has saved my life more than most know,” says Rusty. “He watches my back wherever we go. If Koda Bear barks, then we stop what we are doing and check on the trucks and the gear. He has been an asset to this company since day one … he is admired by everyone.”

Among the other technicians, or “Gladiators,” as Rusty calls them, he’s known as the king of spare parts because his truck is always stocked with anything his team might need to get the job done. They’re the Elite Field Service Team in the industry and can complete challenging jobs in just one day that would usually take another company four to five days to complete. Of course, Koda Bear joins them every time.

By always putting himself in the customer’s shoes, Rusty has demonstrated his long-standing dedication and commitment to not only serving our clients, but to the success of our business. He says it best: “It's true when I say the people I work with have become my second family. There is nothing I wouldn't do for any one of them.”

Our second employee feature for Women’s History Month is Samantha Senese, one of our Service Office Operations Managers. When she started with ThermFlo eight years ago, she had no idea it would become a career and her second home. The urgency involved in maintaining and servicing mission-critical equipment keeps Samantha on her feet every day and contributes to her sense of purpose within the company.

Samantha believes the mission-critical HVAC and power industry has been traditionally dominated by men because of stereotypical gender interests. “I believe this is true about many industries, not just ours. Open those doors up for yourself and others. Believe
there are no limits.”

Opportunities for women in this field are expanding, and Samantha thinks that “ThermFlo is unique in how quickly we’ve evolved over the years. We have female managers and directors; women that have put in the work and gained the respect. They deserve where
they’re at.”

Her advice for other women looking to go into the HVAC field or corporate leadership is to “never feel inferior, don’t conform to what is normal, and don’t hesitate to make your voice heard. If this is your passion, do great work and expect great results.”

In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating female leaders within our organizations. Meet Nicole Lebron, a Service Billing and Coordination Supervisor who’s been with ThermFlo since February 2020. Having previously spent ten years in the real estate industry, Nicole joined our team with already strong customer relations skills.

The mission-critical power and HVAC field has been traditionally dominated by men, but Nicole says that in her career, she’s been lucky to “work closely with authorities that are both male and female who have supported and encouraged me to achieve the supervisorial position that I have today.”

She advises other women looking to go into the HVAC field and corporate leadership to “be confident in your abilities, but also receptive to the ideas and strengths put forth by others.”

Balancing a career and a personal life can be difficult for anyone, let alone a mother of three like Nicole. “Thankfully, I get to work for an amazing organization that supports a work/life balance and is accommodating when things do not go as originally planned,” says Nicole. “I feel that ThermFlo is not only providing me with an amazing opportunity but exhibiting to my young daughter that I do not have to compromise my career or motherhood.”

Our employees lead by example, both in business and in life. Our
hearts were warmed to see Chris Burton’s team using their holiday
party budget to buy gifts for a Toys for Tots drive rather than having an
event or outing. Across ThermFlo and Zonatherm, we ended up dropping
off six large boxes of toys at the Buffalo Grove Police Station for their Toys for Tots donation event.
