McCorkle Nurseries, Inc. began as an ornamental plant grower in 1942. As a pioneer in nursery management with an emphasis on innovation and sustainable growing practices, McCorkle Nurseries is always looking for ways to improve and streamline their operations.

“We need to be focused on continuous improvement,” said Chris McCorkle, operations manager for McCorkle Nurseries. “In our business, even something small like changing the soil can result in something big. Being aware of and open to new, innovative products and production practices is important to our company.”

Since its inception, McCorkle Nurseries made minimal changes to their media mix given their success with pine bark. After learning about HydraFiber® Advanced Substrate’s water-holding capacity and comparable cost to pine bark, McCorkle conducted extensive trials. While McCorkle originally considered using HydraFiber for only a select group of plants, trials quickly showed growing benefits that compelled the company to broaden the trials to all plant varieties as well as propagation.

The transition to HydraFiber is not only simplifying irrigation practices throughout the nursery, but also reducing waste and producing better plants. With HydraFiber, McCorkle’s plants are rooting better and lasting longer, and customers are noticing.

“If we just reduce scrap by one percent, that’s valuable,” McCorkle said. “This was not an insignificant risk for us, but we are confident that we made the right decision.”

Thank you to McCorkle Nurseries for putting your trust in us!

Today we’re spotlighting our team member Preston McFaddin! Preston started his manufacturing career in 2009 with HDT Global, where he spent time in operations, sales, and field support for deployable command centers that catered to the U.S. Military, state, and local response teams. In 2012, he transitioned to operations for food and beverage manufacturing where he spent the next 13 years growing his career in leadership and project management.

Preston joined our team in February of 2025 as the Plant Manager for the Florikan site in Bowling Green, Florida. He has driven meaningful improvements in waste reduction, culture, accountability, and overall performance since leading the team at Florikan. In fact, their facility was awarded Plant of the Year for the first time in Florikan history and reached a year with zero accidents.

Preston shared with us what he enjoys most about his role, “What I enjoy most about working with Profile is the people. We have a workforce at Florikan that has a genuine desire to perform well, and it is our job as leadership to provide them the means and resources necessary to do so.”
Thank you, Preston, for supporting our team and reaching new heights in excellence at the Florikan plant. 💚

Find out why aren’t fans of “moisture control” soils.

It’s mostly a gimmick. You’re paying extra for polymers that act like a diaper-absorbing and trapping water in little hydro absorbing crystals. The problem? That moisture isn’t always available to the plant when it needs it, which can actually lead to stress and poor growth.

If you want real results, stick with a high-quality soil that uses peat moss. It naturally holds moisture while still allowing air flow to the roots-exactly what healthy plants need.

Good soil isn’t about gimmicks... it’s about balance.

Have you sought out rebates or incentives for energy expenses? These expenses are one of the largest cost drivers in greenhouse production. Rebates can help improve project feasibility and strengthen return on investment.

The 2026 Rebates Guides from Svensson bring clarity to this process by outlining available programs, eligibility requirements, and key considerations for planning energy-focused improvements.
