A few weeks ago after a routine annual checkup I received news that one of my tests came back positive for a high probability for prostate cancer. It knocked me to my knees. I was sent for an MRI. The MRI showed that I have two lesions. One in my prostate and one on my bladder. This news knocked me to the ground.
I have worked very hard over the last year to get myself back into shape. I lost 15lbs and packed on muscle. I cleaned up my diet, stopped drinking sugary beverages (with the exception of wine and spirits) and generally made a 180 on my fitness level. I feel fantastic. How can I have cancer? Nobody ever expects to hear those words from your doctor.
To all my brothers out there, please get a checkup every year. Talk to your doctor about everything you are feeling.
The only reason I found this out was because as I was walking out of the doctor’s office he asked me if I had anything else I wanted to talk about. I told him I was having issues when I urinate. He had me take a simple urinalysis test and that is how they found it.
If anything positive (other than a full recovery) that comes of this is that I would hope my sharing this will get my brothers out there to get a checkup. Talk to your doctor about EVERYTHING you are feeling and what is happening with your body.
I got good news today on the lesion on my bladder. It came back negative for High-Grade Urothelial Carcinoma.
I still need to get both lesions biopsied, one in my prostate and one on my bladder, but this is a good start to this fight!
