The Obregon has arrived here at SMS Brownsville – All Star Metals today, Friday, June 7, 2024. The USNS Eugene A. Obregon is a Sergeant Matej Kocak Class Maritime Prepositioning Ship. The Obregon is named in honor of U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Eugene A. Obregon who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions on Sept. 26, 1950, in Seoul, Korea, while serving with Company G, Third Battalion, Fifth Marines, 1st Marine Division (Reinforced).

Welcome the USNS RICHARD G.MATTHIESEN!

The MATTHIESEN completed its final journey to SMS Brownsville – All Star Metals today, Friday, February 16, 2024. USNS Richard G. Matthiesen (T-AOT-1124) was one of four tankers, known as T5s, with double hulls ice-strengthened for protection against damage during missions in extreme climates. She was part of Military Sealift Command's Sealift Program, transporting fuel for the Department of Defense. She was named after Richard G Matthiesen, a Merchant Marine Distinguished Service Medal recipient.

The Cape Nome completed its final journey to SMS Brownsville – All Star Metals yesterday, Tuesday, December 05, 2023. The Cape Nome is an AK-578 Class Cargo ship and served a combination of purposes, including as a container ship, breakbulk cargo ship, and roll on/roll off (Ro/Ro) ship. The Cape Nome has had a distinguished career, serving actively in the United States Navy for over a quarter of a century and almost another in the National Defense Reserve Fleet. We are honored to receive the Cape Nome.

Scrap Metal Services in Brownsville, TX is seeking an Administrative Assistant to join their team. This position will be responsible for performing daily office administration duties, reporting to the Human Resources Manager.

Responsibilities:

· Execute the daily administrative office functions to meet the needs of the organization. Make copies, prepare letters and memos, file documents, data entry, passing messages, faxing documents, scanning important documents. Organize and maintain files.

· Manage recruiting – job posting, assist in interviewing.
· Set up pre-employment physicals and drug screens.
· Assist with Payroll – tracking, calculating, input, and monitoring time & attendance.
· Assist employees with HR-related issues: new hire paperwork, forms, changes, etc.
· Assist management with termination paperwork.
· Track attendance, FMLA, and vacation.
· Develop and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, customers, and vendors.
· Effectively communicate with all levels in the organization.
· Treat employees, customers, suppliers, etc. professionally, respectfully, and courteously.
· Function as part of a team and align with core values to meet company policies and goals, escalating and reporting issues that require further assistance as appropriate.
· Responsible for coordinating needs for company meetings or office events.
· Prepare daily reports and provide information to management as needed.

Requirements:

· Prior experience working in an Industrial site is a plus.
· Exceptional people and problem-solving skills.
· An ability to prioritize/manage time effectively.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
· Intermediate-level knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint is preferred.
· Office Project Management experience is a plus.
· Bilingual (English/Spanish)
· Lead by example and adhere to safety requirements always having proper PPE.
· Perform other duties as needed.

Opportunities abound at Scrap Metal Services of Brownsville!

SMS was just awarded the USNS 1st Lt. Harry L. Martin. This ship was the only ship of its class. Originally built as a container ship and Served in the Military Sealift Command in April of 2000.

The USNS 1st Lt. Harry L. Martin is a massive ship at 754 feet long and a beam of 76 feet. This ship will provide the SMS Brownsville location with months of work on top of our many other projects and is good news for our local economy.
