Moffat Pipe, Inc. completed twin tunnel drives for the US-401 & Ligon Mill Road Improvements project in Wake Forest, NC, installing 880-LF. of 48-in. steel casing beneath roadway infrastructure.

Using an Akkerman 5200 Pipe Jacking System with a WM48S-D TBM, mixed-face disc cutterhead, and laser guidance system, crews navigated sandy clay and cobbles while maintaining precise line and grade across two 440-LF. drives.

Dibco/CRS Joint Venture, comprised of Dibco of Bolton, ON and CRS Tunnelling, Inc. of Oakville, ON completed a 1,890-LF., DN1800, 72-in. RCP tunnel for the Twinning of Etobicoke Creek Trunk Sanitary Sewer project at Lester B. Pearson International Airport in early December 2015.

Using a new large-diameter, face-access Akkerman SL86 MTBM and AZ100 Total Guidance System, the CRS Tunnelling crew installed the tunnel beneath an active runway and two taxiways while navigating challenging geology, water-head, equipment staging and height restrictions.

The project required careful coordination and compliance with airport regulations, demonstrating the capabilities of large-diameter microtunneling for complex transportation infrastructure projects.
