Overloaded pallet rack doesn't usually fail all at once. It starts small — beam deflection you might not even notice — then spreads to the uprights, connection points, and eventually adjacent bays that were never built to carry the extra load. By the time it's obvious, you're looking at injuries, damaged inventory, and a shutdown.

Weight creeps up gradually: SKUs change, "temporary" overflow becomes permanent, and the rack still looks fine right up until it isn't.

We break down what overloading actually does to a rack system and how to catch it before it becomes a failure: https://ecseco.com/blog/what-happens-when-pallet-rack-is-overloaded-and-how-to-prevent-it/

Overloaded pallet racks can fail without warning. Learn what overloading really means, the risks it creates, and how to prevent it.

Most people judge pallet rack by beams and pallet positions. But it's the uprights that actually carry the load — steel gauge, bracing, and frame geometry all affect how much weight a system can safely hold.

Poorly placed dock doors don't just slow you down — they create real safety risks: forklift collisions, blocked sightlines, pedestrian conflicts. We walk through the most common dock configurations and the questions to ask before settling on a layout: https://ecseco.com/blog/how-dock-door-placement-impacts-warehouse-flow-and-efficiency/

Dock doors seem simple until they’re in the wrong place. Then every truck, pallet, forklift, and staging lane has to work around the mistake. And that is why dock door placement matters so much. Every inbound and outbound load passes through the dock area at some point. If you’ve got that area p...

"We'll deal with that later" inventory is quietly killing your throughput. We walk through how to separate receiving and shipping, build lanes with clear jobs, and size staging for peak volume instead of average volume: https://ecseco.com/blog/designing-warehouse-staging-areas-that-dont-kill-throughput/

You’ve got your docs, and you’re thinking hard about your rack layout, so it’s easy to treat your staging area like it’s a leftover space. It just becomes where your inbound pallets, outbound orders, problem freight, returns, and “we’ll deal with that later” inventory go. That’s wher...

Selling used warehouse equipment isn't just finding a buyer. Miss one piece — pricing, removal planning, documentation, payment terms — and the sale drags out or the offer drops. Here's how to do it right. 🔗 ecseco.com/blog/key-considerations-when-selling-used-warehouse-equipment/

Used warehouse equipment can still be worth real money. Pallet rack, shelving, conveyors, mezzanines, forklifts, and other systems pretty often have plenty of life left in them, especially if they’re in passable condition. But selling that equipment is not always as simple as just going out and fi...

A forklift hit your racking. It's still standing — but is it safe? Rack can look fine after impact and still have damage that affects capacity and stability. Here's what to check before putting it back in service. 🔗 ecseco.com/blog/what-to-check-after-a-forklift-collision-with-racking/

Forklift collisions happen. In a busy warehouse, even a careful operator can clip an upright, bump a beam, or catch a baseplate in a tight aisle. The bigger issue is what happens after the collision. A pallet rack can look mostly fine after impact and still have damage that affects its capacity, sta...

Your staging area isn't just leftover floor space near the dock. It's where throughput either flows or dies. Here's how to design it so product moves through it — not into it. 🔗 ecseco.com/blog/designing-warehouse-staging-areas-that-dont-kill-throughput/

You’ve got your docs, and you’re thinking hard about your rack layout, so it’s easy to treat your staging area like it’s a leftover space. It just becomes where your inbound pallets, outbound orders, problem freight, returns, and “we’ll deal with that later” inventory go. That’s wher...
