On Thursday, August 7 we held the 17th Annual CDI/D&I Railroad Golf Outing at the Brookings Country Club. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us! As part of the outing, we were able to raise over $5,700 which was donated to the Hudson, SD Storm Relief and Sleep in Heavenly Peace - Brookings, SD. Congratulations to this years' winning team taking home the awesome hardware, Brookings County! We hope to see you all next year (Save the Date: Thursday, August 13, 2026). Have a safe rest of the year!

CDI is proud to be the Engineer of Record for this massive $84 Million RAISE Grant project for the Rapid City Pierre & Eastern Railroad in collaboration with the South Dakota Department of Transportation. The project stretches from Fort Pierre to Rapid City and is a vital project for improving South Dakota's Transportation network!

Pictured below is one of many rail trains delivering rail to the Rapid City, Pierre & Eastern Railroad (RCP&E) Fort Pierre to Rapid City Rehabilitation Project.

The project will upgrade 87.7 miles of jointed rail with heavier, continuous welded rail. It will also upgrade 121 timber bridge structures, nine steel/concrete bridge structures, 80,000 mainline cross ties, 11 mainline turnouts, 122 private and public crossings, and install 76,200 tons of ballast.

The project includes four new multipurpose hot wheel, hot bearing, and dragging detectors to permit 286,000 lb. cars and increase speed to a minimum of 25 mph between Fort Pierre and Rapid City.

The project is anticipated for completion in 2026.

Brookings area residents be aware of an upcoming structure replacement project on Western Avenue. Civil Design Inc. provided engineering design and will be providing construction administration services for this project. We are looking forward to upgrading this infrastructure and improving safety in the area for the City of Brookings and its residents! Construction will be completed by Austreim Excavating, and the work is expected to take approximately 3-5 weeks.

On Thursday, August 8 fun was had by all at the 16th Annual CDI/D&I Railroad Golf Outing at the Brookings Country Club. Thank you to the 110+ who joined us and helped raise over $5,500 which was donated to the Hawarden 2024 Flood Relief and Teen Challenge of the Dakotas. Congratulations to this years' winning team taking home the hardware: Jason Reaves, Mike Olson, Dallas Willman Brozik, & Greg Vavra! We hope to see you all next year (Save the Date: Thursday, August 7, 2025)!

On May 12 our CEO, Jeffrey Cooley, celebrated his 15-year anniversary, and on May 20 our Survey Crew Chief, Tim Brezina, will also celebrate his 15-year anniversary at CDI!
