Rarely a small request.

At micro scale the wire behaves differently, handling becomes its own process step, inspection needs magnification, and the tolerance stack you were comfortable with suddenly eats the whole budget.

Tollman Spring has been manufacturing precision micro springs, wire forms, and stampings in Bristol, Connecticut since 1945.

We opened our doors as American manufacturing came home from the war and retooled for a consumer boom. Everything got smaller. Radios, appliances, controls, instruments.

Eighty years later, small is still the whole point.

Micro spring work is unforgiving. At these diameters, every variable gets louder:

- Tolerances measured in ten-thousandths
- Material behavior that changes with wire size
- Handling and feeding parts you can lose in a seam
- Repeatability across runs in the hundreds of thousands

That last one is where most suppliers fall down. Making one perfect micro spring is a good day. Making four hundred thousand identical ones is a process.

Micro springs are the ones you squint at.

They are also the ones holding a valve, a latch, or a dose mechanism in place inside a device you will never open.

We are at MEDevice Boston today and tomorrow, sharing Booth #314 with John Evans' Sons, Plymouth Spring, and Lesjöfors.

The mechanism works fine, then the housing shrinks, and the spring has to do the same job in half the space. That is our favorite phone call.

Bristol, Connecticut used to be called Clock City.

this is not a marketing line. It's a nickname the town earned.

Through the 1800s, Bristol was the center of American clockmaking. Clocks built here by the million and shipped across the country.

Those movements were made possible by springs.

So the springmakers followed the clockmakers!

Wire drawers, coilers, stampers, toolmakers, all clustered into a few square miles of Connecticut because that is where the work was. Bristol picked up a second nickname along the way, Bell City, for the spring driven doorbells made here.

The clock companies eventually closed. The spring trade never left.
