We the people…
Our country was founded on the idea, the principle of people working together to form a more perfect union. Since 1850, California, the state we are so fortunate to live in and call home, has been of that idea, that principle.
Today, we the people, face a common challenge. COVID-19. Our fear is normal, yet our reaction to the fear must be measured. It must be guided not by fear, it must be guided by thought and consideration of the facts.
We have learned what COVID-19 can do. We have an understanding of what we can do to minimize transmission and exposure. We are taking great action to bolster our healthcare facilities to handle the influx of patients. We the people are so thankful for all our healthcare professionals, our first responders and all the efforts, large and small, made by all of us. We are in this together.
We will survive COVID-19. However, too many friends and family members will be lost and our prayers go out to each and every one.
It should be acknowledged, by all of us, that the act of living exposes us to dangers every day. Yet we still arise every day, go to work, care for our loved ones and take joy in the act of living. Regardless of the dangers, we do so without fear.
I believe we, the people, must challenge each other, to bring out the best in each other. That giving is better than receiving. With that sentiment in mind, I am asking you to join in an effort to battle something so many of us barely acknowledge. This battle, likely, will go on and never truly be won.
The opponent is hunger! It is likely we all passed someone, every day, who does not have enough to eat. And while we may not win the battle, we can never stop fighting.
