Each year I consider it a privilege to create a knife, sheath and display for the CLF Auction to help promote our art. This is my 2026 creation that will be auctioned off at the CLA show in August. . The materials used on this reminds me of a couple artists that are not with us anymore. Jack Hubbard and Hershel House we miss you.
KNIFE:
The blade was coal forged from 1084 steel, is 8¼ inch long with Woodbury patina, handle is 5¼ inches including the poured pewter bolster. Deer antler came from the collection of Jack Hubbard. The knife has a through tang peened on an inset silver quarter. Blade was Hot-stamped with Maker's Mark and cross Hershel House made for me along with hearts and stars I made. The antler has cross hatching where the brow tine was removed and was stained in tea, then coated with boiled linseed oil.
SHEATH:
Sheath was handstitched from veg-tanned dyed cowhide with linen thread , stamped to match the blade, used Antique punch to create scalloped welt, then treated with homemade bear grease leather dressing.
DISPLAY:
Our friends at Hershel House's Woodbury School allowed me to use the end of one of the original logs that had to be replaced from Hershel's Cabin and a piece of Roof metal to create this display. The Elk crown was shared from a Gary McClure harvest and the 30 Year Medallion came from my membership in the Contemporary Longrifle Association.
