With the prevalence of online ordering, everyone is happy to get a great deal.

While I never argue with someone who says they can get a unit cheaper online, the following videos are a reason they may not really get a 'great deal'.

A online buyer bought this alternator but it keep throwing a 'charging' code. He brought it to a local shop that I do business with and said to replace it. They put in mine.

As the online unit looked new, I thoroughly checked it out as it seemed to bench test fine. This is what I found....

Going through old pictures and came across these...

Years ago I rented a corner in H&M Auto Parts (now Auto Value Parts). I actually had YELLOW PAINTED LINES designate my corner! It worked out well for me for some years.

Glenn's Automotive moved in and I had great coffee breaks with Bill and Vickie. They are still great friends.

I tried to count units that I carried...about 90...

Currently I have over 600!

Not only does Scott have over 600 automotive starters and alternators IN STOCK, he also does a multitude of individual rebuilds.

This current picture shows a 1950's Oliver ready to be reassembled and a 1970's large truck/equipment starter ready to be torn down, diagnosed, parts ordered, cleaned, bead blasted and reassembled, and painted to look like new.

As technology changes so do the tools of the trade. This is the latest addition to our shop.

Prior to purchasing this test bench we did not have the capacity to test alternators that have LIN regulators.

What is LIN? In the last generation of alternators, the regulators use LIN protocol whose communication is bidirectional. That means that the on-board computer talks to the alternator which answers to it.

Got all that? Yeah, we are working on understanding it all, too!

We had a question on a recent post regarding what we do and can offer our customers -Our business is actually multi-faceted.

We are primarily (1) a remanufacturer - we take starters and alternators and completely tear them down, clean, metal bead blast, turn armatures, rotors, replace any or all parts that are inferior with quality parts, including main components. These are the +600 units we have on our shelves.

(2) We are a rebuilder - a customer will bring in a unit and we will diagnose and repair their unit to good as new. It's the same process as above but on units that we do not carry in stock., including farm, heavy duty, vintage, and more.

(3) If we can't repair, we can source quality new units.
