From the beginning in 1969, Western Trailers has focused on a simple goal: "Build the best. In living up to this ideal Western has always relied on feedback from truckers in a variety of industries. And we've customized our trailers accordingly to meet your needs. In Western's first year of operation, we manufactured trailers, working long hours to make a tight delivery deadline. Such dedication h
elped establish our reputation as a company willing to go the extra mile for our customers. Since that humble beginning, we've moved steadily up in the world. In the early 1970s we relocated from our first home, an old fire station, into a gymnasium, then into a new manufacturing facility southeast of Boise, Idaho, where we increased annual production to 550 trailers. In 1999, we outgrew that location and built a state-of-the-art, 100,000 square foot plant where we can now produce more than 1,200 trailers per year. Western's current production capability is due to several factors. First the superior skills of nearly 300 employees, many of whom have remained loyal to the company and its vision for years. Second, a constant stream of first-rate components from a corps of vendors, many of whom have supplied Western Trailers for more than three decades. Third, a revamped manufacturing system, which allows an accurate, accelerated production line assembly process. And finally, more work is now automated: since converting to computer-controlled equipment. We translate drawings directly into machine code to save time while enhancing accuracy and repeatability. In the future, we'll continue to convert to automation, the better to boost production while holding the line of pricing.
