Skill Steel turns five years old today and remains a reminder to me that wherever there is adversity or failure, there is always an opportunity for something great to come out of it.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed"

On this day 237 years ago, one of the most brilliant of documents was penned and a new nation claimed its sovereignty. Today, as we celebrate our Independence Day, we thank and honor all of our country's great patriots who have taken their place in American history by standing up and protecting the rights that this great document grants us. Freedom isn't free, and may we always remember those who have fought for us to live free.

This Memorial Day, we honor all of the brave men and women who gave their lives fighting to protect our great country. We are forever appreciative to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in order ensure our freedoms. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Most people may know that I started Ohio Flame three and a half years ago. Some may know that I actually started my first company, Skill Steel, four years ago today. But I think even fewer people know that I had started my first business, not because I had a vision, or an answer to some kind of calling, or even because of my entrepreneurial spirt, but because I was determined to perserve no matter what adversity was before me. Only weeks before starting my first company, I was laid off from my place of employment during the greatest economic collapse in our lifetime. So I made a decision out of necessity that has changed my life for the better. Whenever there is adversity or failure, there is always an opportunity for something great to come out of it.
