MAJOR WINTER STORM IS LIKELY in North Texas on FRIDAY AND SATURDAY!

Dangerous ice accumulation and significant snowfall are possible. This could lead to power outages, major travel impacts, and infrastructure damage if the forecast verifies.

Friday will begin as mostly rain across the region, then we should see a transition into freezing rain Friday night. This will lead to a possibility of widespread ice accumulation. Exact ice accumulation is uncertain, but significant ice is possible, which means power outages are on the table. Additionally, VERY cold air will arrive Saturday, making this more dangerous.

By Saturday, freezing rain may persist across much of North Texas, while snow continues near the Red River before tapering off late in the day. The combination of ice, snow, and rapidly falling temperatures could make road conditions extremely hazardous and worsen any power-related impacts.

While it is still too early to lock in exact snowfall or ice totals, confidence is increasing in a disruptive winter weather setup. Forecast guidance continues to support a broad area of impactful wintry precipitation, even though precise amounts and locations will become clearer closer to the event.

This forecast is meant to provide a general idea of how this could unfold. Begin thinking through basic preparations tonight and tomorrow, especially travel and power considerations. Once details become more certain, that is when final preparations should be made. Stay tuned for updates as this forecast continues to evolve.
