On Thursday, 25 June 2020, Mozambique celebrates our 45th Independence Day. On this occasion, we ask your help to deliver our message to the criminals ravaging Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique.

Last year, as part of an amazing group of environmental advocates, I submitted a report on the adverse impacts to sensitive ecological areas, marine mammals (whales, dolphins, dugongs), marine water quality, and the socioeconomic well-being of the local population resulting from a proposed offshore oil drilling project near the Bazaruto Archipelago in Mozambique, a true environmental gem that is home or breeding grounds to numerous marine mammals and threatened species assisting environmental advocates. With that in mind, this post really hits home with me!

Following up on my post from the other day on EPA not setting a drinking water standard for perchlorate, a harmful chemical, it is great to see some states stepping up and taking action!

Perchlorates, produced in Henderson from the 1950s to the 1990s, are best remembered for touching off a massive explosion at the PEPCON plant manufacturing in 1988.

Very disappointed in EPA's failure to regulate perchlorate, a chemical in rocket fuel, and more importantly with Independence Day coming up, fireworks. Having done a report where I analyzed perchlorate contamination on local drinking water supplies and discovering how harmful perchlorate is to human health, especially to unborn babies, newborns, and young children, this decision is disheartening!

The EPA won’t set national drinking water standards for perchlorate, a rocket fuel chemical, a decision expected to result in litigation against the agency.

Eligible applicants include local, county, state or federal government agencies; 501(c)3 organizations; and secondary school districts, colleges, or universities. For-profit organizations are eligible to apply in the Research, Assessment, and Monitoring category only.
