National Surveyors Week offers a moment to recognize one of the country’s most enduring and influential professions. Long before the nation expanded from coast to coast, surveyors were among the first to explore, document, and define the land that would become the United States. Their measurements shaped early maps, laid out colonial boundaries, and provided the geographic knowledge that guided the nation’s founders. From George Washington and Thomas Jefferson to Abraham Lincoln, surveying has deep roots in the American story, helping leaders understand the land they would one day govern.

Great News! HRC received a Merit Award for the Waldon Road Pavement Project. Located in Independence and Orion Townships, Michigan, Waldon Road is a two-lane major collector that links M-15 to M-24. The project limits extended from just west of Clintonville Road to just west of Baldwin Road. The overall goals of the project were to implement the following improvements to the corridor: a roundabout at the Clintonville intersection, asphalt paving the entire project limits, road realignment and widening, enclosed and open channel drainage improvements, replacement of three large culvert crossings, and updated pavement markings and signing.
RCOC selected Hubbell, Roth & Clark, Inc. (HRC) to provide preliminary engineering and design for the paving of Waldon Road from Clintonville Road to Baldwin Road. This included topographic surveys, right-of-way acquisition assistance, roadway design, environmental engineering of stream realignment, structural engineering of a box culvert, overall project management, and road design to balance environmental impacts/concerns and improve the safety of the overall roadway. HRC was also responsible for the utility coordination effort and permitting for the project.
