Slowly welded up the worn spots on the engine plate to prevent getting it too hot and warping. Got it roughed out with a flap wheel on the grinder. Now the tedious process of hand filing it to make everything nice and flat.

Here's a perfect example of total lack of workmanship. Customer paid another shop a substantial amount of money to install a new engine on his zero turn mower last year.

That shop is out of business now so I got asked to check out an oil leak. The new engine has a cracked oil pan. I pulled the engine to inspect the damage and this is what I find. The old engine had worked loose and damaged the engine plate. The out-of-business shop simply bolted the expensive new engine to the damaged engine plate and this caused the oil pan to crack.

I will need to weld the damaged areas, grind them flat, re-drill the mounting holes and install the new oil pan. Not an impossible job but a lot more involved than I expected.

Next project on the lift. 2009 Harley Night Train in for it's first service ever at 695 miles. Going to change all the fluids and give it a thorough inspection/adjustment from front to back. I'm sure the miles are going to add up a little faster once Mike gets in the saddle.

A little more motorcycle work in the shop this week. Installed some new Hogworks tail lights on Mark's trike last week. The brake lights didn't seem to be as bright as they should have been but they worked. Brought it back in this week for another looking over and found a cobbled up mess of a convertor module. Replaced the module with the correct one and things are working as they should be. If you can't see these brake lights now, you're blind!

Next project on the bench. Building a frame to mount this antique Western trap thrower. This was built some where around 1920-1930's. I will be giving this a total restoration to return it to working condition and will be taking it to local trap ranges as a working display.

This machine was made to throw clay targets on a regulation trap range and is equipped to throw doubles as well. The thrower was mounted in a trap house where a setter put targets on and varied the angle the targets were thrown by turning the machine. The control stand was mounted about 75' behind the trap house and connected to the trap by a pipe in a pipe. The puller cocked the trap by moving a long handle forward and back. The bird was thrown by pulling the handle back another inch or so. My brother and I set and pulled a lot of targets on this trap back in the early 70's when a group of guys set up a trapshooting range at the old city dump outside of Atkins, Iowa.

New saddlebag brackets fabricated for Lea's Softail. The original mounts use hairpin clips that fail and allow the saddlebags to fall off on the road. They should be more secure with k**b bolts holding them on.
