EWB USA Virginia Polytechnic Institute Chapter

EWB USA Virginia Polytechnic Institute Chapter VT's EWB is a student chapter of the national Engineers Without Borders. Our current project teams are Nicaragua, Uganda, and Kenya!

We are a service organization that works to connect engineers with communities that need our help, all over the world. Our mission is to partner with disadvantaged areas to improve their quality of life through the implementation of environmentally, equitably, and economically sustainable engineering projects while developing internationally responsible engineers and engineering students through e

ducation, encouragement, and experience. We engage in international projects, local service projects, and community outreach.

Today, our EWB Uganda Water team 🇺🇬 met with Mario Reidl, a mentor and board member for EWB Germany who has been involved with Engineers Without Borders for 14 years.

Since both of our teams are working in the same community in Kapchorwa, Uganda, we connected to learn more about each other’s projects and explore ways we can support one another.

Mario shared insight from EWB Germany’s current work building sanitary dry toilet houses for the community and provided helpful guidance for our water project, including information on topographic and soils surveys.

We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate, learn from experienced mentors, and strengthen our approach as we continue working toward sustainable water access in Kapchorwa.

One Big Day, One Big Thanks🤍

“This year over 6,000 students, faculty, and staff completed nearly 1,200 community service projects throughout Blacksburg, Christiansburg and the New River Valley.” 🔗

Our EWB team was proud to carry forward the spirit of Ut Prosim and take part in The Big Event. This year we spent time giving back through simple but meaningful acts like writing cards to residents in senior housing.

Swipe ➡️ to check out some of the cards and origami's we made, and shout out to dingo the patrol pony for keeping our campus safe! 🐴🚓

The Big Event is happening on **April 11**, and we’d love to see you out there with us serving the community and representing EWB. Sign up, get involved, and be part of something bigger! 🦃

Here are some pictures of our team volunteering
at Virginia Tech’s Big Event Last Spring.

Working side by side to give back to the community and living out Ut Prosim in such a hands-on way made the experience even more meaningful.

🦮🦮Shout out to our two little helpers who stole the show and kept spirits high all day 🐾

Day 2 at the EWB National Conference 🌎

🔹Started the morning off right with a hike to Multnomah Falls, taking in the views, crossing the iconic Benson Bridge, and getting a chance to reset with the team before a big day ahead.

🔹From there, we headed into the conference where the welcome session set the tone for everything to come. Hearing from Boris Martin, EWB-USA President, was definitely a highlight, a powerful reminder of the impact this community is making around the world.

🔹Wrapped up the day connecting with other chapters, sharing ideas, and building relationships that go far beyond the conference.

Day in the life at the EWB National Conference in Portland

Follow Connor, one of our Uganda project co-leads, as he makes the journey from Blacksburg to Portland—early flights, long travel days, and everything in between.

This is what it looks like to represent Virginia Tech EWB and push our projects forward 🌍

Stay tuned for Part 2 👀
