Last week, our Birmingham team spent time supporting Hayes K-8 through two great volunteer opportunities!

Team members joined students at Ruffner Mountain for hands-on environmental education, trail exploration, and an encounter with Ruffner Mountain’s live Wildlife Ambassadors. Later in the week, 10 volunteers helped with Hayes K-8’s Literacy Night, assisting with setup, distributing free books, serving spaghetti dinners and refreshments, and helping families throughout the evening.

The Mobile Operations team recently joined the South Alabama River Enthusiasts for a Coastal Cleanup along Big Escambia Creek and the Escambia River!

Together, 16 volunteers cleaned a seven-mile stretch between Flomaton, Alabama, and Century, Florida, removing 36 bags of trash along the way. Special thanks to Kalvin Kimbrough and Derrick Johnson, who took on their first-ever kayaking experience while helping with the cleanup!

Our O'Neal Steel team had the opportunity to attend CMC Steel School in Birmingham, Alabama, this week!

Over two days, team members gained valuable insight into the steelmaking process, explored topics ranging from metallurgy and sustainability to digital solutions, and toured CMC’s melt shop and rolling mill.

It was a great opportunity to expand our industry knowledge, see steel production firsthand, and strengthen our relationship with CMC.

The Shelbyville team recently came together for Employee Appreciation Day while also giving back to their community through GiVE 1OO!

Through a pie-in-the-face contest, TV raffle, and dunk tank, the team raised $1,700 for SCUFFY (Shelby County United Fund for Youth). The team was able to donate a total of $2,700 to support local programs and services throughout Shelby County.

The Birmingham team recently came together through GiVE 1OO to raise funds for type 1 diabetes research!

Thanks to the support of our team members, the raffle fundraiser raised an incredible $3,255, surpassing the team’s $3,000 goal! Congratulations to our raffle winners, Teresa Jenkins, winner of the 65” TV, and Andrew Luckett, winner of the YETI cooler!

As part of our We Caught You Being Safe series, we’re recognizing team members whose everyday actions help create a safer workplace.

Matt, an 18-year team member in Fort Wayne, consistently looks out for his own safety and the safety of those around him. As an inbound unloader, he makes sure drivers are aware of our PPE requirements during check-in and doesn’t hesitate to remind them once they’re inside the facility. His consistency and willingness to speak up help reinforce a safe environment for everyone who enters our facility.

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders, service members, and countless others impacted by that day.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember and reflect on the unity, strength, and compassion that brought our nation together. We will never forget.

The Shelbyville team recently came together to support the Marietta Volunteer Fire Department at its annual Fish Fry!

The event serves as the department’s primary annual fundraiser, helping support its 25 volunteer firefighters who respond to approximately 150–200 calls each year.
