A new 120-foot cross now stands along I-65 in Evergreen, Alabama.
However, it’s more than just a cross for the community.
It was the final wish of a 17-year-old from Evergreen. A wish that had his family and friends all gathered and watching on Tuesday. Knowing that Jackson Conway was still shining on them.
“This is a wish that he had and it spent 5 years coming true, but this wish is a reality,” said Jackson’s Pastor as a kid, Herbert Brown.
It was in 2021 that Jackson passed due to Ewing Sarcoma, a form of bone cancer. His faith was always a massive part of who he was.
“His motto was God’s got this,” said his former classmate, McKenzie Deason.
Jackson’s mother said that his wish was for people to drive past the interstate and be able to see this cross. He did not want it to be named “Jackson’s Cross” all he wanted was just a connection to faith for people.
“It’s hard to describe somebody like that, a young man like this who has that kind of vision, that kind of passion for other people to experience what he experienced in his own faith,” said Brown.
Jackson’s sister Chloe also spoke on what her brother wanted.
“He always wanted me to take care of mommy and daddy, and I promised him that,” said Chloe Conway.
