Stephens obtained his Engineering degree from MSU. He is a licensed Commissioning Agent, a LEEDS certified professional, and holds engineering licenses in the states of Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, and Texas. He is active in ASHRAE and is the past president of the Mobile Chapter.

ASHRAE approves groundbreaking Standard to safeguard indoor spaces from disease transmission. The new ASHRAE Standard 241- Control of Infectious Aerosols is a major step forward in reducing the risk of infectious disease spread in buildings. Infectious aerosols are tiny, exhaled particles that can carry pathogens that cause infections or disease. These particles are so small that they can remain in the air for long periods of time. Use of this standard could reduce exposure to the SARS-COV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, the flu virus and other pathogens.
