Last week, on Rachel Carson’s birthday, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service celebrated the grand opening of the Rachel Carson Center for People and Nature with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

This project included the design, renovation, and addition of a historically significant residential structure, transforming it into a vibrant center for conservation, education, and community engagement. Designed in accordance with the Guiding Principles for Sustainable Federal Buildings, the project incorporates bird-safe glass, native landscaping, and an 80kW photovoltaic system that generates enough electricity to make the facility net-zero in annual energy use.

We’re proud to have helped create a space that celebrates Rachel Carson’s legacy. We look forward to seeing visitors experience the center this summer....

Families, city officials, students, educators, and construction partners came together to mark the start of a long-awaited transformation of the district’s elementary learning environments.

Thank you to WholeTrees Structures for visiting our office last month to interview Principal Tyler Barter about the use of Structural Round Timber (SRT) in the new Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife Headquarters project.
