In 2022, Build Health International began to construct the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) in Sierra Leone.

Four years later, that vision is changing lives. Since opening, the MCOE has supported the delivery of more than 2,400 babies, expanding access to safe, dignified maternal and neonatal care.
What began as a construction site is now a place where mothers receive critical care and families welcome new beginnings. We’re proud to see the lasting impact of healthcare infrastructure designed and built to serve communities for generations.

When high-quality medical equipment is no longer needed at a hospital (and still has years of life left), where does it go?

By partnering with Boston Children's Hospital and Dental Capacity, Build Health International connects functioning medical equipment with healthcare partners who can put it to use. It’s a practical example of how collaboration can reduce waste and extend the life of medical equipment while supporting sustainable and dignified healthcare.

This past weekend, Build Health International was named the recipient of the Philip Freelon Professional Design Award from NOMA for our design of campus expansion with the Institute of Genomics and Global Health (formerly ACEGID) at Redeemer’s University in Ede, Nigeria.

Presented each year, this award recognizes the work of NOMA members whose projects demonstrate thoughtful design and meaningful contributions to the built environment. It celebrates design excellence while recognizing projects that serve communities and strengthen the profession.

This is an incredible distinction and honor, and we are grateful for the support from the design and build community. And many thanks to Kat Kendon for her phenomenal photography!

At Build Health International, architecture is about more than designing buildings. It’s about creating healthcare spaces that work for the people who use them.
