dad was running demos and built a car then started running winchester in 1972. i also started in demos at 16, started running enduros at 19, and then started in grocery getters(later called pure stocks) at 21. my 'reckless abandon' style wasn't very good for racking up wins in the demos, but i always came away with the 'people's choice' awards. i got my first win in pure stocks in aug 91 and got
my second win 2 weeks later. been a long dry spell since then, although i have been close a few times. i moved up to late models in 94 with dad's old rayburn/homebuilt chassis and got rookie of the year at winchester that year. we got a rocket chassis from tim hitt the following year and although ii ran good, i guess i never lived up to what the car was capable of. after a horrible 2000 season that included rolling the car on opening day at potomac, 2 concusions, and 9 broken bones, i returned to the street stocks late in 2000. i drove for longtime sponsor roland cox in a less-than-adequate car. back when winchester would have 15-20 cars in a consolation race(5 laps), we had alot of runs from the back to make the show, so i got the nickname "mr consi." after doing about the best i could with that old car, we built a new car the end of the 06 season. bad luck continued with that car and ended up only running the car 10 races in a year. although i led some laps in it, we never got the car dialed in to get some good finishes. in aug 07, i had a serious crash at winchester. those of you in racing know that once the racing'bug' has bitten you, it is hard to get away. i still continued to help a few buddies and go to the track every now and then. i started reworking an old car that donnie smith had and then the chance to drive for longtime friend jay fauver came up. we ran alot of of the 09 season and just about won a race at potomac(got together with anothercar with 2 to go and spun). we always had decent runs but the bad luck seemed to continue. i ran jay's car a few races in 2010 until i blew up his motor. late in 2010 we put my new motor in his car and even though the bad luck was still there, we had some promising results. in 2011 i will have my own car and hopefully run winchester for points. i have always considered our cars to be 'top 10' material even though the results don' t always show it. bad luck has always seems to follow me and my dad and my friends. it is as if there is a 'black cloud' over us most of the time, hence the Black Cloud Racing.
