Berkeley Marine Center

Berkeley Marine Center Welcome to our family-run boat yard! Berkeley Marine is the center of custom yacht construction in the San Francisco Bay Area.
(252)

We're here to serve you, with capabilities from the smallest repair to building custom racing yachts, such as the Antrim Class 40, California Condor. Racing yachts built at the yard are generating considerable buzz for their advanced designs, and for contributing to the rebirth of a local industry. The facility's dedicated, experienced design and construction team is the key to its success. Constr

uction is led by long-time boat builder Cree Partridge, whose former company P-Squared Yachts, built dozens of high-performance racing yachts in Southern California throughout the 1980's. Naval architect Jim Antrim, a familiar name in performance sailing circles, leads the design process. His innovative designs include everything from the Ultimate 24, Sportboat Magazine's 2003 Boat of the Year, to a series of custom yachts, including an Open 50 built for the Vendee Globe and Around Alone races. Also key to the team is John Palmer, who provides computer cut components of the moulds used in the construction process. The team also features outstanding talent in the latest composite construction techniques, in rigging, and in marine electronics. Besides sharing an appreciation for excellence, all members are dedicated to their craft in custom yacht construction.

We recently got to see Grace Quan, a Chinese-American shrimp fishing "Junk" boat, up close and personal. She is a reconstruction of excavated "Junks" from China Camp built by The SF Maritime National Park, The China Camp State Park, And many volunteers, Built primarily from California Redwood using traditional Chinese Shipbuilding techniques. We are glad to have seen her up close and look forward to helping her educate the bay.

Recently, one of our long time customers, Keith & Hal came in for a new bottom coat, and some other detailing work. Last year they had their Wyliecat 30 electrified with an E-propulsion Outboard. They say it has made motor sailing and docking much easier and less stressful, and couldn't be happier with the system. We love seeing it still in use and going strong over a year after its install. Thanks for stopping by again Keith & Hal!

We went to the Richmond Yacht Club on the 5th for a presentation about electric boat conversions. We ended up bringing glass slipper along (didn't get stuck in the mud this time!) to show her off a little bit, and let everyone see her in person. It was a honor to be invited and the cookies and lemon bars were excellent! Anyone looking for white noise to fall asleep too, you can view the full presentation here. > https://youtu.be/4lyPWEJHxN8

Hey Guys! Sorry we haven't had much time for posts. Our captain Cree Partridge and electric installer, Sean Shigley, are getting ready for presentations at the Islander 36 Fleet and the Richmond Yacht Club. We will be discussing electric drivetrains/conversions, and boat building. The Islander fleet presentation will be this tomorrow, and the Richmond Yacht Club will be March 5th, hopefully nobody falls asleep! Glass Slipper will be at both events so everyone can come take a look at her hydrogen electric system! We will also be doing a short Q8A after the presentations to answer any questions you might have. We would like to thank both the Islander 36 Fleet and Richmond Yacht Club for inviting us, we are all going to have some fun! We will keep everyone posted. :)

Bottom jobs are the heart of any boatyard, and BMC is no exception. Occasionally, racing boats come in looking for specialty sprayed and burnished bottoms to minimize drag as much as possible. Not that long ago we had 3 lined up in the yard! Julio was finishing up Bodacious + that day, Ne-Ne was freshly painted by Rufus Sjoberg (Rufus), and California Condor was prepped for her first coat. Today only condor is still on the hard, waiting for a little engine maintenance. How smooth it is.

10 of our crew went up to Jamestown to help out a friend in need. On our way back we got a little hungry, and Marco wanted to eat at a "Greasy Spoon" like he saw on TV growing up. We found the best greasy spoon Called "Woods Creek Cafe", with some super unique cow decor and GIANT bread bowls filled with eggs, sausage, bacon, topped with cheese and sausage gravy. After he packed a bread bowl away, he took a seat on the cow-ch. we had to drag him back out to the car before he fell asleep. We all loved the staff and we couldn't recommend them enough!
