We are excited to announce that Conveyor Dynamics, Inc. (CDI) has successful commissioned two new overland coal conveyors that transport 600 tph of coal from the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas to the Petacalco Power Station in Guerrero, Mexico. The first conveyor is 2.2km long and includes a horizontal curve with a 400m radius! The second belt conveyor is 3.3km long and includes four horizontal curves with 900m radii and one horizontal curve with 1200m radii. CDI supplied the basic engineering, design review, and control system for these conveyors to Duro Felguera Mining & Handling (DF). DF completed the detail engineering, procurement, and construction of the conveyors as part of a larger 130 million USD turnkey contract to supply new coal unloading, storage, and delivery facilities to the Petacalco Power Plant.

(CDI) ha entregado con éxito dos nuevas fajas overland con capacidad de 600 tph para el transporte de carbón desde el puerto de Lázaro Cárdenas hasta la central eléctrica de Petacalco ubicada en Guerrero, México. La primera cinta transportadora tiene una longitud de 2.2 km y posee una curva horizontal de 400 metros de radio mientras que la segunda cinta transportadora tiene una longitud de 3.3 km e incluye cuatro curvas horizontales con radios de 900 metros y una curva horizontal con un radio de 1200 m. CDI desarrolló la ingeniería básica, revisión del diseño y el sistema de control de estas cintas para Duro Felguera Mining & Handling (DF). DF completó la ingeniería de detalle, adquisición y construcción como parte de un contrato llave en mano con un valor 130 millones de dólares para el suministro de las nuevas instalaciones de descarga, almacenamiento y entrega de carbón a la central eléctrica de Petacalco.

CDI engineers use Rocky to simulate transfer chute designs, identify material flow and structural issues, and validate solutions.

In this example, a client’s original chute is simulated using material calibrated to onsite conditions. After verifying that the simulation replicates reported issues, the material flow is evaluated for excessive ore velocities and blockage potential; the surface wear of the liner and belt components are analyzed for abnormalities, and belt power consumption is estimated.

After identifying the key issues to address, CDI redesigns the chute and then simulates it in Rocky to validate the solutions. By comparing the results with the original, the new simulation shows improvements in material flow, belt wear, and power consumption. In addition, the high wear components are optimized for maximum liner life.

The Rocky simulation can be further coupled ANSYS Mechanical, where the particle forces upon the chute structure are analyzed using FEA.
