Simmonds Equipment’s Genset Reefers are our most popular design for offshore food supply.
We were requested by the offshore industry to design an appropriate model that would cover all their issues.
We built a unit with an integral generator.
This has a Thermo King genset rather than a bespoke generator design to make it easier to maintain and support from their worldwide network of dealers and service outlets. Using the correct combination of refrigeration and genset, we can obtain up to 10 days of constant running from a single fill of the integral 125 Gallon fuel tank.
This can be refueled in situ and can still be powered externally if preferred.
Clip on generators were designed as an external component for truck or rail transportation where the re**er units are loaded with an ISO lift or forklift. Our integral generator position is designed within the ISO constraints of the 20’ container to protect the equipment during offshore crane operations where they would otherwise be damaged during landing. This also better maintains the center of gravity of the equipment during a single point offshore lift.
These Genset Reefers serve as good insurance against spoilage as it has the ability to maintain the correct temperature (refrigerated or frozen) all the way from the food service company to the offshore end user.
On the truck to the dock.
While waiting to be loaded at the offshore supply base.
During the supply boat transfer to the offshore location.
All this without external power requirements.
Typically, the ability of clients to provide external power at the dock or on ever changing supply boat charters is very limited and cumbersome.
Vessel timing, weather, continual changes in offshore project work scopes or longer boat trips to deep water oilfield locations, can leave an “insulated only” food container that’s filled with dry ice for much longer periods than originally planned, spoiling the contents.
Spoiled food is costly for the client or the food company in replacements or emergency helicopter trips. This can damage reputation and doesn’t make for happy offshore personnel or continued business with the customer.
