Krista Wolfeil, Bart Kemper, Alexis San Miguel, and Bart Kemper were joined by Paul Messner (FBI-ret) and William Sayin (former Army engineer) in presenting at the American Academy of Forensic Science' Annual Scientific Meeting, 9-13 Feb. 2026 On Monday was blast, blast effects, and forensic investigation. Thursday some of the team went to local Mardi Gras parades. Friday was a forensic review of the Titan Submerible investigation as well as a discussion of modeling and analyzing pipeline failures (leaks) on old repairs, such as Type A Sleeves.

Kemper Engineering was in force at the 2025 International Workboat Show and MTS Underwater Intervention. Bart Kemper PE and Alexis San Miguel, EI, presented on strain cycle loading of polymer structures. It was the first time for Leah Hoppe, Tina Owen, and Ashli Prosperie as they all engaged and learned. We chatted up the team at Bollinger Shipyards working on the USCG Polar Security Ice Breakers, which we are supporting. We also caught up with Will Kohnen and others from the subsea community and had a team dinner at Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse.

Krista and Bart Kemper attended the 22nd International Submarine Symposium, formerly sponsored by the Marine Technology Society and now by the World Submarine Organization. The meeting was in conjunction with the Submarine Operators Group meeting, creating an energizing dynamic between two sides of a small but growing industry. Bart presented on "CO2, Hypercapnia, and the Titan Submersible," part of the work of KES' investigation of OceanGate and the Titan implosion. This was a more detailed presentation than the one presented the previous week in Adelaide, Australia at . The KES team developed a steady state breathing model to approximate closed-enviroment life support trends and interactions.

Bart just wrapped his first Aussie conference, down in Adelaide, despite being a Chartered Professional Engineer of Australia and Reg. P.E. of Queensland for 8 years. His talk was on how hypercapnia may have influenced decision making on the Titan submersible, featuring a steady state breathing model to approximate human CO2 production. The quality of the work presented was impressive and Bart ended up coaching a student group (who did very well and probably did not need him.) On to the next site!

Bart Kemper, PE, DFE, CFEI conducted a controlled burn of selected cardboard and paper items to demonstrate fire dynamics to Alexis San Miguel and Tina Owen. Even after there were no visible flames or embers, thermal imagery showed the ashes were still 266F, The controlled burn was conducted near Bayou Teche in South Louisiana with no wild fire warning in effect.
