As we prepare for the Memorial Day holiday, we have much to remember. First, we should strive to remember the words written by John the Evangelist:

First John 15:13 (NIV): “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

This reminds us of the importance of sacrifice made in defense of the freedom of our nation. This is the greatest love we can realize. When someone sacrifices their own lives for the lives of others they have never met, we should remember them. We have had many wars and conflicts as a nation. In each of these actions, members of our armed forces have given up their lives to secure the freedom we enjoy today. They may not have been personal friends to us, but their sacrifice makes them our friends and our defenders.

The second thing to remember is Memorial Day is not a day to thank the members of our armed services for their service. Nor is it set aside for those have passed after they performed their service as defenders of our nation. That is reserved for Veteran’s Day. Memorial Day is to remember those who have passed while in service to our country.

Please remember to pray for the families of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom to live in our country as free citizens. They have demonstrated their love for all of us.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend, a BBQ, or a day off of work. It is a day to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We are forever grateful for those who gave everything for our country. ❤️🤍💙
