🚨 Now Shipping: em-trak X100 🚨
This just in — the em-trak X100 VHF with 5W SOTDMA Class B AIS transceiver is in stock and shipping now.
The X100 represents a genuinely new direction from em-trak, and while it looks promising on paper, it’s worth being clear about what that really means. This platform hasn’t been out in the wild yet, so it hasn’t had the chance to be tested by weather, vibration, varied installs, and real boaters doing real things. That’s not a criticism, it’s simply the reality of any first-generation product.
If the Vesper Cortex taught the industry anything, it’s that real innovation in marine electronics doesn’t come from rebranded commodities. It comes from small, focused engineering teams willing to take risks, spend years testing and breaking things, and accepting that early generations are rarely perfect. Many lessons only surface once equipment is actually onboard and in daily use.
em-trak has a strong engineering pedigree, and the X100 appears to be a serious attempt at rethinking how VHF and AIS work together in a single platform. It’s early, and there will almost certainly be things learned as these units begin to see real-world use. Whether that’s a reason to wait, or a reason to lean in, ultimately comes down to your comfort level.
We’ve begun bench testing the X100 and will be paying close attention as early field experience develops.
If you have questions about the X100, drop them in the comments. We’ll do our best to answer them directly and/or address them as part of our upcoming technical review.
