Most ideas never make it past the “this could be huge” stage. That’s the gap we’re here to close.

We’ve been awarded a contract by Maryland Clean Energy Center (MCEC) to support startups in the Maryland Energy Innovation Accelerator (MEIA) in taking their ideas out of slides… and into the real world.

Now we get to roll up our sleeves with more founders and turn prototypes into something tangible.

Big shoutout to MEIA for continuing to invest in founders building real clean energy solutions, and for bringing together a network of support organizations ready to help them scale!

As part of this collaboration MCEC and MEIA will be paying for the services of organizations like ours to help drive these critical energy and climate technology innovations forward.

👉 If you’re ready to move from prototype to production, we’d love to meet you, and if you are a climate tech company you may qualify for MEIA support!

Engineering. Design for Manufacturing. Supply Chain Strategy. Pilot Production. High Volume Manufacturing. All under one roof!

We had the opportunity to host Deputy Administrator Bill Briggs and the U.S. Small Business Administration team at Harbor Designs last week as part of their visit to Baltimore’s manufacturing and innovation community.

Thank you to the Greater Baltimore Committee for inviting us to the meeting in DC that kicked it off, and to Early Charm Ventures for coordinating their visit to Baltimore.

Through company visits and candid roundtable discussions, they left with firsthand insights from manufacturers on tariffs, labor and immigration impacts, supply chain resilience, and how Baltimore’s diverse manufacturing ecosystem supports our nation’s economy, healthcare, and defense.

We were fortunate to have a number of our clients and institutional partners on hand to give their own perspectives. Thanks to GetRichualist , NasaClip , Sonavi Labs , Medical Inc., Lasarrus , Redbag Solutions, Mid Atlantic Veterans Business Outreach Center, Maryland Small Business Development Center, Maryland Business Opportunity Center, Maryland Clean Energy Center , and Maryland Energy Innovation Accelerator, who all got to talk with Deputy Director Briggs and offered strong testaments to the kind of work we are doing together to support diverse innovators across this ecosystem.

Innovation took the runway 👠

We are proud to see some of our clients’ products take the stage at Howard Community College Cyber on the Catwalk, modeled and demonstrated by leaders across Maryland’s cybersecurity community.

On the runway:
👏 Kendra Rice Parlock, Vice President of Partnerships & Engagement at NPower – modeling Feelix by Sonavi Labs
👏 Vicki Franz, Publisher, I95 Business – modeling NasaClip
👏 Maureen Evans, Vice President of Government and External Affairs at Howard Community College – modeling GetRichualist “The Mint.”

More than a showcase, this Technology Advancement Center - TAC event helps students take the final step into cybersecurity careers, covering certification costs that often stand between them and real job opportunities.

While we work with cybersecurity device leaders in the room, this unique industry mashup brings together leaders from the cyber world, supports students, and gives Maryland’s non-cybersecurity companies, like these Harbor-built, TEDCO -backed consumer technologies, one more stage to shine.

Congrats to the organizers on another great Cyber on the Catwalk!

Give all of these changemakers a big 👏!

What does it take to keep innovation and manufacturing growing IN MARYLAND?

Our COO, Joshua Barnes, joined a panel that testified before the Maryland Senate Finance Committee on two bills, backed by Maryland Technology Development Corporation - TEDCO , that could significantly strengthen Maryland’s innovation and manufacturing ecosystem.

The discussion focused on two key initiatives:

🤝 Senate Bill 763 – Maryland Growth Initiative
Expands funding and support for startups working to move breakthrough ideas from research to real-world impact.

🤝 Senate Bill 905 – Maryland Advanced Manufacturing Grant
Helps manufacturing companies invest in capital equipment and automation needed to scale production, strengthen supply chains, and keep high-value manufacturing in Maryland.

These initiatives are sponsored by Senator Craig Zucker and Senator Senator Guy Guzzone , whose leadership continues to support innovation and advanced manufacturing across Maryland.

Startups don’t have to leave the state to grow.

Let’s keep moving Maryland forward.

Yes, you read that right. You can drink this water.

Millions of people already do and safely!

LifeStraw makes the only filter pitchers, dispensers, and water bottles that remove bacteria and parasites, along with microplastics, because if you don’t filter your water, you ARE the filter!

Their products are your go-to whether you’re hiking off-grid, traveling somewhere unfamiliar, or just want better quality water and peace of mind at home.

LifeStraw also helps protect underserved communities from waterborne disease where clean water is limited.

For every 500 products they sell, they donate a community purification system to schools in need in under-resourced communities.

Choosing LifeStraw products is about supporting health, dignity, and the simple human right to safe drinking water.

We’re excited to share that Harbor Designs & Manufacturing has been awarded a new contract by the University of Maryland, Maryland Business Opportunity Center - MBOC, under the NSBA - National Small Business Assoc. to help Maryland startups turn their bold ideas into real, manufacturable products!

Why this matters:

Too many strong ideas stall between concept, prototype, and manufacturing.
In 2024 and 2025, we were proud to work with MBOC to define their client support strategy and help some amazing early-stage founders with engineering and prototyping support.

Through this program, we’ll continue to work hands-on with early-stage companies across the full product development lifecycle.

Founders will collaborate directly with our experts to:
✅ build viable product prototypes
✅ evaluate commercial potential
✅ prepare for growth and investor conversations

👉Got a product idea or already building one? Let’s talk. You may be a fit for some or all of the amazing services offered by MBOC!

An awesome night – too good not to share.

It was an honor to host and sponsor the Maryland Energy Innovation Accelerator and Baltimore Climate Tech Meetup Holiday Party 2025!

Wico Street Beer Co was packed wall to wall with old friends reconnecting, new connections forming, and a shared commitment to building climate tech solutions for Baltimore.

We’re proud to be in community with so many climate tech builders across Maryland, including:

Ampere Finance, FinEV, Liatris, Inc., JJ Innovative Materials, Natáur Inc., Uplift Geosystems, Forager Station, Suhas Malghan, DWaste, GaiaXus, Lichen Ventures, and Resilient Earth Capital

Huge thanks to Baltimore Climate Tech Meetup and Maryland Energy Innovation Accelerator for bringing this night together, and to our co-sponsors BetterWay and Ewaste Warriors for their support.

Most of all, thank you to everyone who showed up, stayed late, shared ideas, and made the night what it was.

Happy Holidays! 🥂

While Memorial Day is a somber and reflective occasion, Veterans Day is our chance to celebrate every service member and their families.

This year, we were inspired by remarks from General Berger (ret.), 38th Commandant of the US Marine Corps.

We heard from veteran business support organizations and the veterans themselves driving innovative solutions with that same spirit of service which keeps showing up in new ways; in labs, startups, classrooms, and communities.

Thanks to Johns Hopkins University and Harbor’s Adler A. for creating space where those connections, ideas, and collaborations can keep growing.

Harbor Designs and Manufacturing was honored to sponsor and support this great event! To all those that have served, we thank you and celebrate you!
