WRA received the 2025 Outstanding New Multiple-Span Bridge Award from the Association for Bridge Construction and Design for the SR 20-B15 over Twentymile Creek Bridge Replacement project located in North East, Pennsylvania.

The project was an accelerated, multidisciplinary effort driven by urgent safety concerns and the need to restore a critical transportation link in North East Township. Initially scoped as the rehabilitation of the four-span prestressed concrete bridge, the project rapidly shifted when inspections and analysis revealed serious structural deficiencies resulting in closure. In just six days, the team evaluated alternatives and made a final decision to replace the structure with a two span continuous steel girder bridge. The WRA Team worked with an exceptionally accelerated schedule to deliver the 380’ long bridge replacement project within weeks.

WRA received an Award of Excellence for Building Design and Construction from the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services for the Historic Fairfax Courthouse project.

The project involved demolishing two decommissioned, non-historic wings, one from the 1950s and the other from the 1980s. It also included repairs to the walls where the wings were removed, installation of two new windows to match the existing windows, and masonry restoration of the entire courthouse returning the building’s exterior to its pre-1950s appearance.

WRA attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Innovation Station North Neighborhood Access project in Fairfax County, Virginia. Our team performed design and environmental services on this project, which added a shared-use path and two pedestrian bridges to connect adjacent neighborhoods to the Innovation Station Metrorail Station. The improvements significantly reduced the trip length for pedestrians and cyclists to the station.

🚇 Completed path gives residents direct route to Innovation Center Metro station

Fairfax County officials celebrated the completion of the Innovation Station North Neighborhood Access project, which includes a shared-use path and two pedestrian bridges connecting residents north of the Innovation Center Metro station directly to the transit stop. The new infrastructure reduces the former 2 to 3-mile route for pedestrians and cyclists to just half a mile, enhancing accessibility to the Metro's kiss-and-ride lot.

The WRA Team received an Engineering Excellence Award from ACEC MD for the I-95 Interchange at I-695 Ten Bridges Rehabilitation Project located in Baltimore County, Maryland.

WRA served as the lead consultant on this critical initiative that extended the service life and improved safety for ten bridges along one of the busiest corridors in the U.S, which carries over 272,000 vehicles daily. The project incorporated innovative methods, including Latex Modified Concrete (LMC) overlays and full-depth deck replacements using a specially designed concrete mix. These techniques allowed construction to proceed without long-term lane closures, minimizing impacts on the traveling public. In addition to the planned repairs, WRA recommended performing additional repairs during construction while full access to the bridges was available. The recommendations were implemented and expansion joints, upper sections of concrete backwalls, and concrete deck end diaphragms were replaced. This approach delayed the need to replace structures, leading to substantial cost savings and preventing future disruptions. The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
