Architectural Engineers Collaborative (AEC) was founded in 1998 by experienced structural engineers with a mission to practice architectural engineering. The company's name is descriptive of the ongoing mission and intrinsic belief that structural design and architectural design are inseparable in the realm of building. The architectural engineer extends his or her design role beyond the mathemati

c and economic evaluation of a structural framework to examine the impact of structure on the building as a whole. The engineers at AEC understand and embrace the basic constraints of site, program, sustainability, and budget in order to design structures that are complementary to the goals of our clients. The resultant buildings are improved functionally, environmentally, economically, and aesthetically.

Join us on November 12 at Springdale Station to toast the incredible preservation work done in Austin this year🥂 More info + tickets at preservationaustin.org

Hogg Memorial Auditorium, designed by legendary architect Paul Cret and opened in 1933, has served for nearly a century. This landmark building has hosted lectures, performances, final exams, and graduations. In recent decades, however, the auditorium had fallen into disrepair and was struggling to accommodate the evolving campus community.

In 2023, University Unions managed a stunning restoration of the storied event space – representing the first renovation on campus to be LEEDv4 BD+C Platinum certified. Work included a complete overhaul of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, new seating, an accessible lift to the stage, and gender-inclusive restrooms. A striking wood wall was introduced to acoustically separate the lobby from the 1,000-seat auditorium, drawing inspiration from the building's original carved plaster. Additional sound engineering treatments and a state-of-the-art A/V system were installed to enhance audio quality.

The team of experts involved in this project, including , , , , , and Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc., balanced restoration with modernization, enlarging the lobby while preserving its historic details. The transformed auditorium now serves as a vibrant hub for students and visitors, revitalizing its traditional role and encouraging the University to continue to pursue best preservation practices on campus. Hook ‘em!
