Our Story

For 50+ years, Auburn Gear Inc. has been manufacturing performance differentials for the automotive and light truck markets. Our unique and robust cone-clutch mechanism is the cornerstone of our design. This clutch style outperforms other limited slip designs. Everything we know goes into ensuring the customer receives a reliable and robust, performance traction control differential that will step up when you need it and take you where you want to go – street, strip, track, on- or off road. All Auburn Gear differential products are made here in the USA. Auburn Gear High Performance Limited Slip Differentials: The highly efficient torque transfer is achieved via cone clutches coupled to beveled side gears. As torque is transmitted through the differential side gears to the axle shafts, the side gear separating forces and spring pre-load firmly seat the cones into the differential case. The cone design, along with the applied force, determines the torque transfer capability of the differential. All Auburn Gear differentials require high quality non-synthetic 80W90 GL-5 gear oil. Treat the oil with Auburn Gear, GM, or Ford additive. 3 ounces of additive per 1 quart of oil. A 6 oz. bottle of additive comes with each Auburn unit. Auburn Gear Pro Series Limited Slip Differentials: You can't lose with either unit, but for that extra performance edge the Pro Series Differential provides the higher bias design to put you over the top and into the winner's circle. All Auburn Gear differentials require high-quality non-synthetic 80W90 GL-5 gear oil. Treat the oil with Auburn Gear, GM, or Ford additive. 3 ounces of additive per 1 quart of oil. A 6 oz. bottle of additive comes with each Auburn unit. Auburn Gear ECTED MAX - Locker: ECTED stands for Electronically Controlled Traction Enhancing Differentials (Pronounced "ek-ted"). It is a revolutionary product with respect to traction technology. ECTED provides the user with a selectable limited slip or locked mode. When "off," the ECTED functions as a performance limited slip differential for on and off-road excitement. When "on," the ECTED becomes a Spool, which is ideal for the quarter-mile or the off-road terrain. All Auburn Gear differentials require high quality non-synthetic 80W90 GL-5 gear oil. Treat the oil with Auburn Gear, GM, or Ford additive. 3 ounces of additive per 1 quart of oil. A 6 oz. bottle of additive comes with each Auburn unit. Limited Slip Additive: This Additive is recommended for use with all Auburn Gear Limited Slip Differentials to keep them operating smoothly and extend the service life. 3 ounces of additive per 1 quart of oil.
