Hibbard Inshore

Hibbard Inshore Underwater services company specializing in remotely controlled operations.

Hibbard's wide range of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and sensors can operate in flooded, partially flooded and dry conditions, granting access to unsafe and difficult to reach infrastructure. The ROVs are operated and supported by experienced engineers and ROV pilots, who work with clients to assess each project’s unique needs. We then customize our ROVs with an assortment of sensors and tools to provide previously unavailable inspection data and construction services.

Hibbard Inshore recently completed a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) inspection of a 4,000ft potable water pipe. This allowed the system to stay in service and continue to provide local residents with clean water without interrupting their service. All equipment that entered the water adhered to strict AWWA standards for potable water. The ROV was equipped with forward-looking multibeam imaging sonar, profiling sonar, and a tilt-mounted HD camera, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of the tunnel condition.

⚫️Hibbard Inshore recently completed a 22.7km inspection of the Tala Hydropower Plant headrace tunnel and a 6.5km inspection of the Chhukha Hydropower Plant headrace tunnel with our Saab Sabertooth AUV/ROV system for Druk Green Power in Bhutan. The Sabertooth provided 3D multibeam profiling, and forward-looking imaging sonar data in both tunnels.

⚫️During the longer Sabertooth inspections our smaller LBV ROV system provided underwater video of the penstocks, desilting chambers, surge shafts, gates and their guides.

⚫️The primary objective of this inspection was to provide data on the current conditions of each structure and look for any signs of damage, sedimentation, or liner damage. The data collected from this inspection will be utilized to determine the current condition and whether maintenance or remediation tasks would need to be performed as a result of the findings.

⚫️In 2011, Hibbard Inshore inspected the headrace tunnel of Chhukha, including its intake structures, desilting chambers, head race tunnel, surge shaft, pressure shaft and penstocks. During the same year, the Hibbard inspected the Tala surge shaft and found two holes at the bottom of surge shaft, which we were able to provide an ROV option for plugging. (Link?)

⚫️The Chhukha Hydropower Plant has an installed capacity of 336 MW and was commissioned between 1986 to 1988 while Tala Hydropower Plant has an installed capacity of 1020MW and was commissioned between July 2007 to March 2008.

⚫️Hibbard Inshore is proud to work with our partner Druk Green Power in providing inspections for their Hydropower Plants, and look forward to the continued use of their water conducting systems in the future!

🔹We are extremely excited to be part of the upcoming US Navy Wave Energy Test Site (WETS) Demonstration project where Hibbard Inshore will remotely operate our Saab Sabertooth AUV over the course of several weeks.

🔹For the demonstration,Hibbard Inshore will provide a subsea docking station and charger to interface with C-Power's SeaRAY power system which will convert wave energy to both power and provide data transmission services for Hibbard Inshore's Sabertooth AUV.

🔹The demonstration will include sensing systems from partners BioSonics, 2G Robotics, R2Sonic, andNOAA. The AUV and sensing systems will live underwater during the deployment without operators or a vessel resident onsite.

🔹Throughout the course of the demonstration, the vehicle will be programmed remotely for varying missions.

Leak Repair in a Hydroelectric Power Dam Tunnel.

While regular underwater inspection is usually part of the standard maintenance plan for aging hydroelectric facilities, it is less common for a plan to be in place to inspect newer assets. Conducting inspections on new dams after plant commissioning can identify premature wear or leaks.
