Firefighters across the country are preparing for what experts are calling an extreme 2026 wildfire season.

With dry conditions already building and agencies warning of increased fire danger, crews are stressing one thing: preparation now saves lives later.

From wildland crews to city departments assisting with mutual aid, training, staffing, and readiness matter more than ever.

As firefighters, we know the fire doesn’t care if you’re ready.

Train harder. Check your equipment. Know your job. Expect victims.

Stay safe and stay sharp.

The Georgia Forestry Commission reports steady progress on the Pineland Road and Highway 82 wildfires, with containment reaching 70% and 90% respectively, while crews continue to work diligently to extinguish remaining flames amid ongoing drought conditions.

WORKING FIRE — NORTHEAST ATLANTA

Atlanta Fire Rescue crews battled a residential structure fire Sunday morning on Berkshire Road NE. According to 11Alive, crews arrived to find a one-story wood-frame home with heavy fire and smoke showing, with fire extension into the attic. Firefighters started with an offensive attack while conducting searches, then later transitioned to defensive operations as conditions worsened. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.

Good reminder of how quickly attic involvement can change the risk profile on a residential fire. Respect to the crews operating and making the call to adjust tactics when conditions changed.

🚨 Atlanta stays busy — and so do our firefighters who protect it.

In 2025, Engine 6 and Truck 1 were the busiest units in the city, responding to thousands of calls and carrying a heavy workload every shift. 📊

AFRD is one of the busiest fire departments in the country. The demand is constant — and these units, like all Atlanta firefighters, answer it every day. 🔥🚒
