Field survey update from Nacoochee Mounds: the local stakeholders were very interested in our geophysical survey methods, although they seemed more focused on whether the GPR equipment carried snacks than on the magnetometry data. 🐄

Our team recently conducted geophysical investigations utilizing Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and magnetometry to help identify potential subsurface features while minimizing disturbance to this culturally significant landscape. Not every project comes with scenic mountain views, nationally important archaeology, and an on-site bovine quality control team, but we’ll take it. 🏺

A tough day in the field often comes with sweet rewards. While conducting ecology surveys in a transmission corridor, we came up on this little piece of magic. We know good social media posts should have people at work so forgive us for recruiting a baby fawn to strike a pose…or take a nap.

Archaeology plays a key role in helping projects move forward while protecting cultural resources and meeting regulatory requirements. Paul Jackson recently presented at the Center for Louisiana Studies on the history of Louisiana’s sugar industry, and archaeological findings reveal more than 200 years of development across the region.

His work highlights how cultural resource investigations can support informed decision-making, reduce project risk, and preserve historically significant sites.

We also extend our thanks to University of Louisiana at Lafayette for fostering engagement with this topic, supporting this discussion, and expanding awareness through student-led coverage of the presentation.

At Edwards-Pitman Environmental, Inc., we value opportunities to share our expertise, support education, and contribute to conversations that connect our past to the present. Thank you to the Center for Louisiana Studies and UL Lafayette for fostering meaningful dialogue around Louisiana’s cultural heritage.
