Recent situation that keeps happening. A customer came in with a brake concern and another shop just did a four wheel brake job. I found the rear seals leaking along with a bad vibration when stopping. I told him cheaper line aftermarket brakes can’t hold up on a F450 towing over 18k everyday and aftermarket rear seals never seem to hold up. He told me the shop insured him it was OEM parts.

Many shops say the parts are OEM, but that does not mean they are Ford or Motorcraft. It just means someone deemed them to guarantee factory fitment and match specifications. This customer paid nearly double what a ford brake job would have cost here and received low quality aftermarket brakes.

When you get an invoice from any shop, make sure they are putting the part numbers on your invoice. This way you know the parts you are receiving without deception. Some will list “OEM ____” but it will be from ORileys. If a part number was listed you would know where it’s coming from. If the incorrect part number is listed they can be sued for theft by deception. Also, with that part number you can google it or call your local ford dealership to spot check. Google the part number and look at Lakeland Ford or similar and that is generally our cost. Most shops markup 10-20%. Others will sell at top end of list.

6.0 towed in for shutting off while driving. New IPR, injector, and a full service.

6.0s are generally riddled with high pressure oil concerns due to oil shear. It is important to follow severe duty service guidelines and use oils with additives to decrease oil shear in 6.0s. This is recommended for heavy tow applications, excessive idled trucks, and trucks in higher ambient temperatures.

It’s a good habit to keep oil temperatures in check during the summer. We try to keep oil temperatures within fifteen degrees of coolant temperature. If the temperature split is any more, it indicates a failing/failed oil cooler.
