This year, thus far nine people have tragically lost their lives in lightning strike events.
In a study by the NFPA and National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS), the following findings about โlightning-causedโ fires stand out.
Notably, lightning-caused fires โdollar loss per fire is nearly twice that from all U.S. fires.โ
Two-thirds of lightning fires occur in the period June through August.
Roofs, sidewalls, framing, and electrical wires are the areas most ignited by lightning fires.
