Hillis-Carnes was proud to join DrinkPAK and fellow project partners in South Philadelphia to celebrate a major milestone at The Bellwether District!

Representing Hillis-Carnes at the celebration were David Harmanos, P.E., Andrew Hajec, P.E., Sadeke Konte, and Michael Murray.

DrinkPAK’s $350 million investment will bring approximately 175 manufacturing jobs to the region and support the transformation of the former Philadelphia Energy Solutions refinery site into a thriving industrial and logistics hub.

Hillis-Carnes is proud to support this transformative project, providing Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Materials Testing and Inspection services for the approximately 1.4-million-square-foot manufacturing and warehouse facility. From initial subsurface investigations through ongoing construction, our team has played an important role in supporting the development of this state-of-the-art facility.

Congratulations to DrinkPAK and the entire project team on this exciting milestone! We are honored to contribute to a project that is helping shape the future of manufacturing in Philadelphia.

Congratulations to our COO, Karl Higgins, P.E., whose photo was selected as the Safety in Practice Category Winner in the Geoprofessional Business Association’s (GBA) 2026 Photo and Video Contest!

Karl’s winning photo captured a Hillis-Carnes drill crew in action, showcasing the importance of thoughtful planning, proper PPE, organized work areas, and proactive hazard prevention in maintaining a safe jobsite.

Under the leadership of Mike Hillis, the crew demonstrated an outstanding commitment to safety while operating three Hillis-Carnes drill rigs on a large-scale project. Their attention to detail, preparation, and safe work practices exemplify the safety-first mindset we strive to uphold on every project.

Hillis-Carnes recently joined our project partners to celebrate a major construction milestone at Red Lion Redevelopment in Arlington, Virginia.

The redevelopment is transforming the former Red Lion Hotel property into an eight-story residential community with more than 440 units, structured parking, modern amenities, and committed affordable housing.

Hillis-Carnes has supported the project with comprehensive construction materials testing and inspection services, as well as environmental services related to soil characterization and disposal.

We’re proud to work alongside Orr Partners, CBG Building Company, SK&A Structural Engineers, and the entire project team as this significant Arlington redevelopment continues to take shape.

We’re excited to welcome Stephen Forest, PE, to Hillis-Carnes as Associate Principal and Geotechnical Division Manager in Sarasota, Florida!

Stephen brings more than nine years of experience in geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, threshold inspections, and specialized in-situ pressuremeter testing. His technical expertise, project management experience, and knowledge of the Florida market will play an important role as we continue to expand our geotechnical capabilities and presence throughout the state.

In his new role, Stephen will provide technical and operational leadership while supporting project delivery, client relationships, business development, and the continued growth of our Florida operations.

Hillis-Carnes was pleased to join friends and colleagues for the 25th Anniversary of The Legacy Chase at Shawan Downs! The annual steeplechase brings the community together for a day of racing while supporting the Land Preservation Trust and the preservation of Baltimore County’s agricultural lands.
