Exciting news! At their recent May 2026 meeting, the University of Michigan Board of Regents approved the schematic design for an upcoming project involving U-M’s Lorch Hall. The project includes a 73,000 sq. ft. renovation and a 90,000 sq. ft. addition to the existing structure. Upon the project’s estimated completion in Winter 2030, Lorch Hall will be carbon-zero ready and will offer an increased capacity to support the needs of faculty, staff, and students.

We are excited to see the opening of the recently renovated MSU Plant Science Research Greenhouse Complex. The complex was improved to upgrade older infrastructure and install new state-of-the-art features, including environmental controls and LED lighting. These improvements will support the more than 400 faculty and students who use the facility by expanding and enhancing their capacity to conduct research and engage in learning development.

Congratulations to Alex Wilkinson, Project Planner at Beckett & Raeder, Inc., on being published in the Journal of Environmental Planning and Management! 🎉

As part of a talented team of Taubman College alumni from the Master of Urban Planning program at the University of Michigan, Alex contributed to the capstone project “Running the River,” led by Professor Richard Norton.

The report explores innovative policy solutions, like using tax increment financing (TIF), to support improvements and long-term maintenance of Michigan’s water trails.

Partnering with the Shiawassee River Water Trail Coalition, the team developed forward-thinking strategies that could have a meaningful impact on recreational infrastructure across the state.

Michigan’s newest psychiatric hospital in Northville Township is on track to open this fall, expanding access to critical mental health services across the state. The 264-bed facility will serve patients of all ages and replace aging infrastructure, while increasing statewide capacity with new beds for both adults and children. Designed with separate living and programmatic spaces, the hospital will provide a modern, supportive environment focused on patient care, safety, and long-term wellbeing.

🎉 Big news for East Bay Township 🎉

East Bay Township has been awarded more than $5.5 million from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund to support three major projects that enhance conservation and outdoor recreation. Funding includes securing a conservation easement at The Ridge Property, advancing planning for the Three Mile Trail, and implementing community-driven improvements at the Holiday Woodlands Natural Area.

Beckett & Raeder, Inc. was proud to support the Township by helping draft the grant application for the Holiday Woodlands Project and assisting with the community engagement efforts that shaped the plan behind the application. 🏗️ Progress continues on Michigan State University’s Student Recreation and Wellness Center! This new 293,000-sq-ft facility, the first of its kind at MSU in more than 50 years, is taking shape as a central hub for student health, fitness, and community. Designed with student input, the center will include gymnasiums, multi-activity courts, a turf arena, indoor track, fitness studios, a 50-meter pool, and more - all focused on enhancing well-being and connection on campus.

🎉 The project was recently recognized as an honoree at the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 2025 Celebration of Regional Growth (CORG) Awards, receiving recognition for its design and investment in student wellness - reflecting MSU’s commitment to a healthy campus life.
