BBFM teamed up with Architects Alaska to design and CANstruct an Angry Bird at the Dimond Center for the 2022 Anchorage CANstruction event. All the structures will be on display until April 16th and have a QR code on display that enables you to vote for your favorite!

We had CANsiderable amount of fun on build day erecting over 3000 cans that will be donated to the Food Bank of Alaska to help fight hunger in our community. Hats off to all of the teams who participated, we enjoyed walking around to see all of your creations!

It's always a treat to venture out of the office, especially when we get to visit some of our past projects! Greg Latreille () is currently in Bethel on assignment, but he found time to walk through the Paul John Calricaraq Regional Hospital and Clinic. Amazing how the project improved the appearance of this aging structure, in addition to adding a 3 story clinic to the side of it! Kudos to our friends at BNAP, Arcadis, and Davis for a great design and an expertly executed finished product.

We are happy to be teaming up with Architects Alaska for the 2022 CANstruction competition! Voting is in April (exact date TBD) and all are welcome to bring their own can donations in order to cast their vote for their favorite structure.

Architects Alaska is officially announcing our participation in Anchorage CANstruction 2022!

For those who haven’t heard of CANstruction, it’s a competition between architects, engineers, contractors, and students. Firms compete to build the best sculpture out of ordinary cans you get at the supermarket. Winners get bragging rights, but the real reason to participate is that all the cans used will end up going to food-insecure Alaskans through Food Bank of Alaska. This year we have teamed up with BBFM Engineers, Inc. and are super excited about our team and project, to be built in April!

There’s lots of preparation to do before the big build day – we’re currently searching the supermarkets, doing some CANresearch…

Today is my last full day of work at BBFM Engineers (although I took PTO today, seeing as I have successfully weaned my project load down to almost nothing). Don't worry, if there is some CA or other work to complete on any of my projects with you. I will be working part time in the beginning of the next year to complete that work. I will be checking my usual email address and office line most days, sometimes more than once. If a project extends too far into the future, BBFM Engineers will transfer the project to another principal.

It has been an enjoyable 42-year career and almost 26 years here. I have had the pleasure of working with a number of talented structural engineers over the years on projects with a number of exceptional architects, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers. Not to mention a sleazy fabricator. 🤣 I will miss working with you all, but I will be enjoying more golf, wine tastings, and reading copious quantities of mystery and adventure books.
