🪚 Department Highlight: Saw Operators

Precision starts long before a finished component leaves the shop, and our Saw Operators play an important role in getting every project started on the right foot.

Our Saw Operators are responsible for cutting aluminum and other materials to the exact dimensions needed for fabrication. They carefully review fabrication orders and prints, verify measurements and quantities, inspect materials, and make sure everything is properly labeled and staged for the next step in the process.

It’s work that requires accuracy, attention to detail, mechanical know-how, and a strong commitment to safety. A precise cut today helps keep fabrication moving smoothly tomorrow.

We’re grateful for the Saw Operators who bring consistency, reliability, and teamwork to the shop every day and help keep MDSI projects moving forward.

In this role, you’ll serve as the technical lead on assigned projects, working closely with our engineering, production, and field teams. From reviewing drawings and customer specifications to identifying potential issues before they cause delays, your expertise will help turn project plans into successful results.

We’re looking for someone with:
▪️ A minimum of 5 years of construction industry experience
▪️ Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints
▪️ Strong technical problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
▪️ A proactive approach and the ability to collaborate across teams

CAD experience and experience in wall cladding design or installation are a plus!

🎉 Celebrating 20 Years with Neil! 🎉

Today, we’re celebrating an incredible milestone—Neil Bredenberg has officially been part of the MDSI team for 20 years!

Neil’s journey at MDSI is a great example of just how much can happen over two decades. He started his career with us in Production, went on to manage our Crating Department, became MDSI’s first Quality Control Specialist, and today brings all of that experience to our Design Lab team.

If you’ve worked with Neil, you know he is meticulous about his work. He notices the details others might miss, takes pride in doing things the right way, and has built an incredible amount of knowledge over his 20 years here.

And, of course, we can’t recognize Neil without mentioning something that has been almost as consistent as his dedication to MDSI.... the gray stocking hat that has been part of his unofficial uniform for more than half of his career! 😄

Neil, thank you for the craftsmanship, knowledge, dedication, and personality you’ve brought to MDSI over the past 20 years. We’re grateful you’ve been part of our story and proud to celebrate this milestone with you.

⭐ TEAM MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: TIM QUANDT ⭐

This week, we’re spotlighting Tim Quandt, Designer, who has been part of the MDSI team for more than 13 years!

Before joining MDSI, Tim spent 21 years in the sign industry and also worked as a commercial artist. One thing many may not know is that he once carried his portfolio around Chicago, riding the CTA and walking the streets in pursuit of art opportunities.

What Tim enjoys most about MDSI is the culture of teamwork, grace, and genuine care for one another.
When asked about a memorable project from his time at MDSI, Tim shared Nordstrom Rack, a project he enjoyed being part of from the initial large mock-up through the final job.

Throughout his time at MDSI, Tim has learned a lot about the construction industry, knowledge that has also come in handy while tackling projects around his own home. Outside of work, Tim has been married for almost 34 years, and if given the opportunity to learn something new, he says he’d love to learn a couple of new languages.

And finally, with a little Tim humor, one of his favorite quote combinations is:

Project in Progress: Cedar Crossing Casino

Work is continuing to take shape at Cedar Crossing Casino as the project works through the process of its three installation phases.

This project includes multiple scopes of work, including HPL/Fundermax panels and ACM panels at the entrances.

With several different elements coming together, it is exciting to see the project continue to progress on site.

Here’s a little sneak peek of the project, where the panels are helping bring the design to life.

We’re looking forward to seeing the finished result as Cedar Crossing Casino continues to come together!

Community Changers at MDSI

At MDSI, Servanthood is one of our core values.
Through our Community Changers program, our team members are given the opportunity to complete eight hours of paid volunteer work each year with one of our participating community organizations.

One example is our team’s participation in Matthew 25’s Transform Week 2026, where MDSI team members helped paint the foundation of one home before heading to another property to paint a deck and fence.

We are proud to support our team as they use their time and talents to serve others and make a meaningful difference in the communities where we live and work.

⭐ Team Member Spotlight: Keagan Barrett ⭐

Keagan joined MDSI in 2021 while looking for a career that offered long-term growth. Manufacturing gave him the opportunity to build new skills and contribute to an industry that plays an important role in Iowa’s economy, with MDSI’s unique work making it an even better fit.

Since joining the team, Keagan has strengthened his ability to manage deadlines, adapt to changing schedules, organize his workflow, and communicate across different levels of leadership.

His favorite part of MDSI is the camaraderie on the shop floor. The team works hard, laughs often, and has built friendships that extend beyond work. He is especially proud of the progress made in panel crating, support material coordination, and material administration to improve efficiency and quality for our customer partners.

Outside of work, Keagan enjoys sports, history, reading, wrestling with his kids, spending time with his wife, reading the Bible, and praying with his family.
Romans 5:8 and 2 Corinthians 5:21 are the life verses that guide him.

Fun fact: Keagan has a strong interest in public policy and, given the time and opportunity, would love to serve his fellow Iowans as a state politician.
