Speedbike at ISU

Speedbike at ISU ISU club with the goal to design, build, and race a human powered vehicle at the IHPVA's World Human

The ISU Speed Bike is a Student group working to design and build the world's fastest human powered vehicle. As with any race vehicle there is significant costs to constructing and racing at a level to compete with the best in the world. We are estimating that the total value of our project at $35,000. We are thankful for all cash, service, and material donations. It is only through these generous

donations that we can continue. Adopt-a-Program:
Adopt a watt - $5 - Cyclone Speed Bike Certificate

Adopt-a-Tire- $100 - Name a tire, 2 T-Shirts, Cyclone Speed Bike Certificate

Adopt-a-mile- $250 - Name the mile (4 mile run up, 1 mile run down), 4 T-Shirts or 2 Polos, Cyclone Speed Bike Certificate

Iowa State Cyclone Speed Bike is always on the lookout for additional support. In order
to remain competitive, our team must seek the support of additional sponsors that
can meet our growing needs. sponsors can choose to support us through:
Cash Donations
Part Donations
Software Licenses
Manufacturing Equipment Donations
Design & Fabrication Services
Marketing Support
Material Donations

We cannot stress this enough: product and cash donations ensure the success of
our program and allow for a greater chance of victory at competition. Without our
generous sponsors, the team would cease to exist. We would like to thank our
current sponsors for supporting our program. All of our supporters are recognized in our newsletter and on our website. Depending on the level of sponsorship you can also get your logo on the team's bike, letterhead, and t-shirts. We are a student group, and as such our studies must come first. We do our best to ensure that all donors are promptly acknowledged on the team website but if for some reason you don't receive appropriate recognition in a timely manner please send us an email.

What a weekend. The next step in the build process is using a carbon layup with vacuum bagging to get the tough spots (head tube and seat clusters). While some of us on the team like the way the contrast between the different materials gives the bike a lugged appearance, this week we will be working to fill those holes before the team leaves for Thanksgiving break.

Drafting is a key tactic in cycling that allows riders to maintain more of their speed over longer distances. It usually works by having a rider take shelter in the wake caused by another rider in front. This wake gives the sheltered rider a boost; it will take less energy to move at the same speed. But did you know that the rider in front also gets a boost?

Thank you to the Eindhoven University of Technology for their findings.

Will next Saturday's Tour de France prologue in Utrecht get the winner it deserves? New aerodynamic research at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) shows that riders in a time trial can save vital seconds by riding closer to the following team car. Over a short distance like the prologue of th...

Great first workday! The team smoothed out some of the rough edges using bondo and sandpaper. This coming Wednesday will be the first layup session where the first layers of carbon will be applied to the nose section. Big thanks to the Iowa State University College of Engineering Student Services department for helping our team secure work space on campus!

So just how important are aerodynamics for cycling? The faster you go the harder it gets. There’s a lot of cool tricks to help out though! Our team is using a cover that will allow our bike to slip through the air to reach highway speeds.

Can you ride faster – for free, pretty much – simply by adopting a more aerodynamic position on the bike? Click here to subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/Subsc...
